Living Waters Flow On

In continuation of what I shared previously in the last blog, let me add some thoughts on living waters. Those who enjoy waters of life freely can be grouped into three categories.

  • The brooks for the passengers/pilgrims

He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; (Psalms. 110: 7)

The living waters flow with a constant invitation to everyone. There are people passing along the way who are just travelers without any thought about their need or thirst. They are just passersby bent upon their aim or target in their lives. Sometimes they may find the way very tedious and may get tired naturally. To quench their thirst they may look for water. At that time they may come across the brook by the wayside accidently. They quench their thirst and continue their journey. They are happy because they need water badly, but they are not at all concerned about the preciousness of the water or the pleasure it promises. They are happy because their present need is met and they go on without any thought of the stream which helped them in their absolute necessity.

Just like that there are some people who come to Jesus, the source of living waters because of their afflictions or problems. They see Jesus only as a problem solver. Jesus is merciful at all times to everyone. He solves their problems and delivers them from their afflictions. They have their demands fulfilled and go their own way just like the people mentioned above. Such people can never enjoy the real sweetness of His fellowship or everlasting grace.

2. The well

Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. (Isaiah. 12: 3)

These people are better than the travelers I mentioned above. These people get satisfaction in their source. Lord Jehovah Is “our strength, our joy and our song”. They have experienced God in their lives and are happy and contented in their experiences. They draw water out of their own well and meet their personal need daily. They know the preciousness of this well and cannot live without the joy it offers. In John. 4: 14, Jesus told the Samaritan woman that whoever drinks of the water that he

will never thirst.

3. The rivers of Life

If anyone thirst let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit whom those believing in Him would receive. (John. 7: 37, 38)

The well enjoyed by a person becomes rivers when He is filled with the Spirit of God. When rivers flow in the natural realm there is no limit to its usefulness. No one can control the flow or limit its use when it flows in its own way nourishing lands, people and countries. Similarly when a person is filled with Holy Spirit, is yielded to the Spirit and allows the Holy Spirit to work through him, many are nourished by him. He is useful to many in different lands, cultures and nations. This is a satisfying and exhilarating experience.

I will continue in the next blog…
